When I went on vacation to Ibiza in late July, I brought with me the audio version of Ayn Rand’s classic Atlas Shrugged, the bible of many libertarians, which I consider myself to be. It is a dry read though. More than two days and nights of strong selfishness. Anyway, tonight we were watching a documentary on Ayn Rand (A Sense of Life) and I got an interesting thought.
The Interesting Thought
Every cultish leader through history has been a rigid my-way-or-the-highway type.
Ayn Rand was pretty square. Enough said.
Hitler was… Adamant.
Steve Jobs is notoriously known for his temper fits that scares the shit out of almost any victim.
Jesus even admitted openly he was the way, the light, the everything.
I’m sure we can both come up with plenty more great examples, but I’ll cut straight to the chase:
The Bottom Line
Just throw out all your self-help stuff, what you need to realise is that in order to come through in life, and move on up; you just need to be stubborn and rigid. Heck, that explains why ever since I became a buddhist I’ve gone nowhere in my career and lost most of my friends and influence. Well, From now on, there’s a new me in town, I’ll let my hair grow long and lead the way.
